WATCH: D’arce Choke from countered Judo Throw – Demonstrated by UFC Fighter/Olympian Dan Kelly

On August 13, 2015 By

4-time Olympian and current Aussie UFC middleweight Dan Kelly shows you how to apply a D’arce choke when your opponent counters you Judo throw, AKA D’arce choke from Uchi Mata.

With UFC 190 in the books and Ronda Rousey leaving Bethe Correia in the rear-view mirror, we continue the trend of “Judo in MMA” for our Technique of the Week. Who better to demonstrate than the man who competed in four Olympic games (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012) and currently competes in the UFC’s middleweight division, Australia’s own Dan Kelly.

This week Dan demonstrates the D’arce choke from an Uchi Mata counter. For anybody who doesn’t come from the land of ‘the rising sun’ or isn’t fluent in Portuguese, it basically means that when your opponent counters your initial Judo throw (Uchi Mata) and sprawls on the ground, you can still finish them off and choke them out. This is especially helpful in MMA where sprawls are commonplace and chokes are legal, and Dan shows you exactly how to do it in the video above.

Check out the video above for the technique, and don’t forget to subscribe HERE for a new technique every Wednesday!
